RICS Birmingham Office Shortlisted as Finalist for IWFM Impact Awards!

We are thrilled to announce that the recent refurbishment project of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) at their Birmingham office, located at 55 Colmore Row, has been announced as a finalist in the IWFM Impact Award. The project is shortlisted in the prestigious 'Positive Climate Action: Large Organisation (>250 employees)' category.

The IWFM Impact Awards stands as the pinnacle event within the realm of workplace and facilities management. This distinguished occasion commemorates not only exceptional best practices and inventive solutions within an influential field but also one that permeates numerous aspects of existence.

This recognition comes as the workplace and facilities management industry assumes a pivotal role in the race to achieve carbon reduction targets following the commitments made by the government after the COP 26 conference. Buildings, as significant contributors to carbon emissions, offer a crucial opportunity for positive change. From energy efficiency and waste management to recycling and reducing non-sustainable plastics, actions taken within and around these buildings can have a profound impact on emissions reduction. The project focused on revamping the RICS Birmingham office's fifth-floor members area to adapt to the new paradigm of remote working, all while minimising carbon emissions and maximising sustainability. This comprehensive refurbishment demonstrated RICS' commitment to environmental, social, and governance (ESG) principles by placing waste reduction, reuse of materials, and responsible procurement at the core of the project.

By repurposing existing fixtures, furniture, and equipment, the project significantly reduced its embodied carbon emissions, showcasing the potential for carbon reduction in refurbishment efforts. The new space incorporates reused elements, such as meeting booths and quiet pods, and is designed with a neutral colour scheme and indoor plants to promote well-being among occupants.
