Impactful Spaces for Workplace Experience

It can be hard to keep up with the forever changing dynamics of the workplace. We have collated the latest information with a focus on what spaces impact workplace performance and experience.

What does the workplace mean for employees these days?

In the latest UK Workplace Survey, UK employees imply that the office is important to maximise both individual and team productivity. Today, employees only spend 46% of their workweek in the office. However, they mention they ideally need to be in the workplace 66% of the time to maximise their productivity. In addition, workers at the most innovative companies jumped to 75% of the week. The survey also revealed that workers are more mobile than ever before. People spend their working week not only between home and office but also in other locations such as travelling, coworking spaces, or even coffee shops. However, if workers imply that the workplace can bring them more productivity, why don’t they choose to work in the office more often?

Which spaces have the most impact?

The primary reasons employees choose to come to the office are to concentrate on their tasks and collaborate with their teams, indicating that employees view the office as a productive environment to accomplish their work and foster teamwork. To cater to the need for both individual focus and social collaboration, a diverse range of workspaces is essential.  Workspaces that provide a variety of work environments both inside and outside the traditional office consistently achieve higher performance and satisfaction ratings.

The survey revealed that hybrid workers were more willing to increase their office attendance. Over 80% of office workers said having the freedom to choose their preferred working location within the office will make them more willing to be in the office. This shows the significance of offering choice when designing workspaces. Nearly half expressed their willingness to increase their office attendance by one extra day per week if their organisation provided them multiple types of spaces for working in the office.

When presented with different options for everyday experiences, respondents preferred coffee shops and boutique hotel environments. Furthermore, the younger workforce was most inclined to increase their office. Within the UK, spaces dedicated to restoration and reflection, individual work, and creative group collaboration emerge as the most valued. Among these, workspaces designed to promote rest or napping have the greatest impact. Click here to read more about Nap Pods:
