Elevating The Hylo Building: The Design Journey

The Hylo building was ready to embark on a transformative journey, and we were the trusted partner in this venture. Working closely with the landlord and architect, we eagerly took on the challenge of curating a remarkable working environment for the building's future tenants at the prestigious Hylo Building, located in the iconic Old Street.

Our mission for this exciting endeavour was to create a space reflecting the Hylo building's identity and brand while embodying the essence of the vibrant city it called home. With a duration of 16 weeks and encompassing approximately 10,000 square feet over two floors, this project was a testament to our commitment to delivering exceptional results.

Level 18, a tenant-ready floor that serves as the marketing team's show floor, acted as a blank canvas, thus allowing us to draw inspiration from the rich tapestry of the surrounding neighbourhoods: Barbican, City, and Shoreditch. These distinctive areas, each with its own unique identity, ignited the imagination of our design team. In response, we crafted three extraordinary design concepts, each reflecting the essence of a neighbourhood and catering to different tenant personalities. As the project progressed, these styles artfully merged, resulting in a breathtaking fusion that encapsulated the vibrant spirit of London.

Level 7—The Hylo building's multipurpose space - beckons tenants to engage in larger meetings and events. Eager to infuse this space with an air of refined sophistication, the landlord and architect expressed their desire for a members club vibe. Drawing on our intuitive design prowess, we transformed the area, weaving together elements that exuded elegance, ensuring an intimate and exclusive atmosphere for all who graced its halls.

With a clear understanding of Hylo's vision and aspirations, we diligently listened to the landlord and architect's brief and took on the challenges with enthusiasm. Through consistent design meetings and reworking to ensure we perfected the design they had in mind, this showcased our unwavering commitment to meeting their expectations. The result was a resounding success—a harmonious fusion that exceeded all expectations, delighting them and ensuring a breathtaking space perfectly aligned with their vision.

Alongside gorgeous designs, sustainability also lies at the heart of our design philosophy. We meticulously selected furniture that embraced sustainability: meeting chairs adorned with recycled wool fabric upholstery, locally manufactured desks and meeting tables that minimised the carbon footprint, touchdown and breakout chairs with recycled plastic content, and a rehomed bar from the lobby, making sure to refurbish it so that it was given a new lease of life in the multipurpose space —all these choices demonstrated a deep commitment to environmental stewardship. Even the soft seating upholstery fabrics were thoughtfully curated, featuring recycled polyester, a testament to our dedication to a more sustainable world.

The transformed Hylo Building stands as a testament to the remarkably close collaboration and partnership between Modus Workspace and Hylo. A vibrant space that encapsulates the spirit of London, it fuels creativity and fosters productivity. The journey undertaken by us has left an indelible mark, ensuring that every tenant thrives in an environment that seamlessly blends functionality, aesthetics, and sustainability.
