Client Brief

Our relationship with Fujitsu began 15 years ago when we were tasked with fitting out four floors at 22 Baker Street to serve as Fujitsu’s new HQ. The original brief was to create a space reflecting the client’s specifications, featuring dark cherry-stained frames and doors, beige carpets, clusters of Tangent desks, and executive offices on the third floor.

Fujitsu recently re-evaluated their workplace model, with the leadership team eager to embrace new ideas in office design and utilisation. The goal was to develop a modern approach that would provide employees with a vibrant, collaborative environment for working together with partners and customers.

Our solution

To inspire Fujitsu’s team, we arranged visits to several Modus projects that had already embraced these modern ideas.

A visit to The Shard, where we showcased our work for Mitie, allowed Fujitsu to experience the shift from traditional, sterile workstations to collaborative workspaces with sofas, meeting booths, and relaxed, informal areas for joined-up working.

Convinced by what they saw, Fujitsu trusted Modus to redevelop their Baker Street head office in a similar style, while ensuring their corporate identity was seamlessly integrated into the concept.

The look and feel of the project were critical. While the floorplates remained largely open and the number of meeting rooms stayed similar, the challenge was to modernise and brighten the space significantly.

Fujitsu’s preferences in furniture, influenced by their Nordic and Northern European projects, included pieces from Swedish manufacturer Kinnarps, London-based Spacestor, and other products that were blended into a modern, practical furniture package.

Nordic-inspired aesthetic

To achieve a lighter atmosphere, we incorporated a Nordic aesthetic into the design. Softer carpet tones, loose lay timber flooring, and a lighter wall colour brightened the space in contrast to the original dark wood veneers.

We also upgraded all lighting to cool white LEDs, transforming the once dark and uninviting space into a light, open, and welcoming environment.

The overwhelming red accents were replaced with subtler pinks and other accent colours, especially on the first floor, where timber elements were added to the atrium and carried through the doors and frames.

The private dining room also received a significant update. Previously designed as a stately, almost rigid space, it has been modernised with a hidden screen, voile curtains, contemporary feature lighting, and a lighter, more welcoming touch.

A Space That Puts Employees First

Through our collaboration, Fujitsu now boasts a bright, modern, state-of-the-art office that will undoubtedly help attract and retain exceptional employees. The response to the completed work has been overwhelmingly positive, with senior management particularly appreciative of the new environment we’ve created.

It was a pleasure working with Fujitsu again, and we’re thrilled to hear that the staff are enjoying their fabulous new office. To explore the space yourself, please take a look at the project case study here.

Client feedback

“I have to say, I am blown away. Every space looks fantastic. The ‘feel’ is exactly what we were striving for, and it sets a new standard globally for Fujitsu. A small number of senior colleagues have been using the office in recent weeks, and the feedback is unanimous that we have transformed the workspace and underpins the culture and image we are striving to create.” Paul Brown, Head of Property and Shared Services, Fujitsu
